Just launched a new design for Red Door Shelter. This is our second design for Red Door, having designed their original site a few years ago.
Red Door provides assistance to families, refugees and women who are fleeing violence.
December 12th, 2011New Site for Future Possibilities for Kids

Web site design for Future Possibilities for Kids, a charity that works to involve, inspire and empower Kids to develop their own aspirations and dreams for themselves and their communities through leadership training and ‘possibility thinking’.
“As a non-profit Executive Director, I have been developing websites for many years. Never has the process gone so smoothly or been so enjoyable as it has with the team at Swerve Design Group. Throughout the process of creating our new website and newsletter, cost effectiveness and quality were strived for and the team was always friendly, professional and willing to help. I would highly recommend working with Swerve for your websites or graphic design needs and we certainly will over the long term!”

ECO Annual Report Design

We are very proud of our design for the Ontario Environmental Commissioner.
In his 2010/2011 Annual Report “Engaging Solutions” released today, Gord Miller says there’s no shortage of talk about the problems such as climate change, waste diversion, and the loss of biodiversity. “But when it comes to doing something” says Miller, “there doesn’t seem to be a lot actually happening.

Along with the print version of the report in French and English Swerve also created the PDF and epub editions.
November 28th, 2011Design for Good featured in GD USA
Swerve’s Design for Good project was recognized as a leader in sustainable design practices in the October ‘A Culture of Green’ issue of Graphic Design USA magazine.

Graphic Design USA recognized us, among others, as “making sustainability make sense, as a business model and as an extension of their personal beliefs…they are having success showing others the practical and philosophical benefits of sustainable design solutions, using ‘green’ not as a marketing angle but as an integral part of who they are, what they do and how they approach design solutions.”
Design for good is a friendly division of Swerve Design Group. Read the full article at Graphic Design USA or the overview at the RGD Ontario site.

10 Things We Have Learned About Creating Non-profit Association Websites
We were asked recently to put together some tips of what we have learned designing web sites for non-profits that could be applied to other non-profit communications projects. Here are some of our tips:
1. It’s not about you – its about your member/donor
2. Design backwards, start with the end goal
3. Listen. Listen to supporters and staff
4. Find your own unique voice
5. Celebrate your supporters!
6. Just because you build it, it doesn’t mean they will come
7. Engage, engage, engage
8. Use opensource technologies
9. Do it right the first time (or at least this time)
10. Have a small committee, be decisive and communicate to rest of staff
And remember, launching your site isn’t the end – watch your analytics, review and enhance your site.
October 8th, 2011Threads of Life Web Site Design

Threads of Life is an association for workplace tragedy family support. They needed a new site that was easy to update, promoted the great work they are doing and helped drive traffic to their national fundraising walks which we also redesigned at the same time. Both sites are built on an easy to use WordPress content management system.
October 8th, 2011Steps for Life Web Site Design

Steps for Life is the national walk in support of Threads of Life – an association for workplace tragedy family support. They needed a new site that was easy to update, promoted the great work they are doing and encouraged support for their national fundraising walks. We also redesigned the main Threads of Life site at the same time so both sites are built on the same easy to use WordPress content management system.
October 3rd, 2011Federation of Ontario Public Libraries Web Site Design
The Federation of Ontario Public Libraries is governed by 23 board members to represent first nations, Francophone, northern, rural, large and small libraries in Ontario. They needed a new site that better communicated their messages and united all the members. So we designed a new online brand, customized an open source content management system, built a members only private section and a full discussion form to allow all the members to connect.
June 14th, 2011Energy Conservation Report

Swerve recently completed the design for the Annual Energy Conservation Progress Report for the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario.
This 72 page report, available in both English and French, was designed as a printed booklet and also, for the first time ever, as an epub book. Thanks to this the number of printed copies of the book can be greatly reduced – a significant benefit to the environment.
The Environmental Commissioner of Ontario (ECO) reports annually to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario on the province’s progress in energy conservation.
